Mending "We Gathered at Wakerobin Hollow Chapter 07: Julia Alone"

It has been a year since the Ambient drone duo of Kate Adams and Joshua Dumas, known as Mending, released the first installment of their ambitious project We Gathered at Wakerobin Hollow. As we noted a year ago, this is a four hour, forty song, project that is being released in nine chapters.

The duo released "Chapter 7: Julia Alone” last week, and this chapter finds the character of Julia in Brooklyn corresponding with friends and experiencing the impact of a massive flood.

Humeysha releases sandy new single "Nusrat on the Beach"

Humeysha -- the project of musician and songwriter Zain Alam -- will release new EP Nusrat on the Beach on August 2nd; the record's name takes inspiration from a dream of Alam's, in which he saw legendary Pakistani vocalist and musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on the beach. You can hear some of the passion and devotion from Nusrat's music in the EP's title track, mixed with the chilled out indie sounds from Alam which convey the surf and sand. The whole song acts as an aural gateway to Alam's dream; you'll dream it yourself. Take a listen to "Nusrat on the Beach" below. - Will Sisskind

Debut Forgotten Bottom EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Myles Donovan (A Stick And A Stone, Ominous Cloud Ensemble, Disemballerina) and Eric Bandel (Nymph, Victory and Good Hunting) creatively combine talents to form Forgotten Bottom. The duo recently released Hostile Architecture, which will be available on cassette via Black Horizons. Subtle, intricate, suspenseful soundscapes are unravelled. A complex, classical beauty captures one’s focus. These compositions move with an organic, scene-transporting ardor.

Influences: Watching a city you love and grew up in become gentrified and developed beyond recognition over the decades, working with folks experiencing homelessness, working in psychiatric rehabilitation, old greek songs about prison and hash, the sound of the market frankford el, addiction and recovery, bartok duets, sonny sharrock, manic depression, too much caffeine, abandoned buildings, the opiod crisis in kensington, the overlooked crack cocaine epidemic in north philly, that oil refinery with the divine natural acoustics that exploded, profound and beautiful things muttered by nursing home residents, don't get us started

Resavoir “Plantasy”

Neo-Jazz band Resavoir has released a video for their single “Plantasy” from their recently release Self-Titled LP (International Anthem, June 2019). The video was directed by Jackson James of Weird Life Films and is the perfect embodiment of this beautifully complex song.

Resavoir is primarily the work of Will Miller (of Whitney) (Trumpet/Synth), Irvin Pierce (saxophone), Akenya Seymour (keys/vocals), Lane Beckstrom (bass), Peter Manheim (drums) and Jeremy Cunningham (drums).

Resavoir will be celebrating the vinyl release of their album on the Friday, July 26th, at Sleeping Village with Yadda Yadda and Lake James.

Weekend Warrior - July 19 - 21

Taiwan Housing Project have released another lethal LP Sub-Language Trustees, which is now available via ever/never records. The band generates a jarring intensity, shaking up the status quo. Kilynn Lunsford’s vocals demand one’s attention, in a mesmerizing fashion as the experimental instrumentation swirls in a chaotic, post-apocalyptic fashion. Unlikely combinations create unsettling sonic surroundings in the aftermath. Thrown into a cacophony of chaos that rumbles and roars, the band leads you through the fiery force of the unknown. This Saturday night, Cousin Danny’s will be hosting the Taiwan Housing Project’s record release celebration, with support from The Doilies and Eat (who were just added to the bill due to Chronic Anxiety’s Mitch Esparza being injured during a strong-arm robbery – we are certainly wishing him well and hoping for a speedy recovery). Stay cool & hydrated out there! (Photo by Rich Wexler) – Michael Colavita
